Copyright Policy: Your Freedom to Re-Use Our Materials
Intersex Initiative supports the principles and goals of Creative Commons and the free culture movement that seek to foster creativity and progress in our society through fighting laws and technlogies that discourage that progress and through promoting alternatives to the unnecessarily restrictive copyright system that serve nobody but the small number of media conglomerates and their lawyers.
As activists, we also want our supporters to help spread our message wherever they are, but we fear that some people may be inhibited from doing so the easiest way they can--simply printing out our site and giving it to others, or reprinting it elsewhere--out of concern that they might be violating our copyright. That is why we decided to publish our "official" copyright policy: we want to encourage, not discourage, people to use and re-use our materials, and we are doing so by removing uncertainties and restrictions.
- Most contents of www.intersexinitiative.org that are attributed to Intersex Initiative or its members are released under "Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 1.0" Creative Commons license (version 2.0 is fine also, but we haven't read it closely just yet).
- This license allows you to copy, distribute and create modified (including excerpted and translated) versions of the contents of www.intersexinitiative.org under the following conditions: a) you must give us the credit; b) it must be non-commercial purpose; and c) if you make a modified version and distribute it publicly, you can only do so under the same exact condition as these.
- If you discover that statements on this page contradict the actual license, you may elect to follow whichever is less restrictive. But please let us know, because we want to fix errors if there are any.
- Contents on this website that are attributed to a third party (such as Bodies Like Ours) is not governed by this license, and may require specific permission from their copyright holders (not us) before you can distribute them. When something is unattributed, you can safely assume that it belongs to us.
- Our booklets under Publications section are not covered by this license. However, almost all of the articles included in these booklets can be found in some way throughout our website, and given our license you should be able to re-construct your own booklets that are virtually identical to ours.
- If you need to re-use our materials in ways that are not already permitted by the license (such as reprinting an article in a commercial book), please email us to seek permission. Chances are we will gladly grant permission, but we want to be able to keep track of such things.
If you have any questions about any of the above, or if you know of even better alternatives, please feel free to contact us.
